McLeod, Corry

Cornelia Maria McLeod (nee Vos) peacefully passed away on Feb. 7, 2020 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. with her family by her side.
Corry was born on July 26, 1931 to parents Gerrit and Metta Vos in Rijnsburg, South Holland (Netherlands), the oldest of eight children. Corry loved her life in the old country; she was close with her grandparents and cousins and often spoke of the beautiful tulip fields, trips to the sea, and the abundance of her favourite food (fish). Her family immigrated to Canada in 1950 in order to start a new life in the aftermath of WWII.
In Canada, Corry was a seamstress by trade. She loved all needlework, participating in 4H and farmers markets. She also found great joy in nature identifying plants and wildlife -birds and flowers in particular. She married her husband Clifford S. McLeod on Feb. 17, 1962. They bought a small farm in LaVallee where they raised their daughter Luella, and three adopted children, Dean, Christina and Rodney. Corry lived the majority of her life there alongside Luella and her husband Jack. It was also there that she began her life as “Oma,” playing an important role in the upbringing of her grandchildren. Her lifelong dream was to attend post-secondary school, which she fulfilled through various distance education courses. She passionately supported her grandchildren in their education and passed on lessons in strength and resilience to help them succeed.
Corry is predeceased by parents Metta and Gerrit Vos; sister Metta Visser; brothers Kees, Koos, Guy, Gary, and Bill Vos; husband Clifford McLeod; son Rodney; daughter Christina; and grandson Joseph. She is survived by brother Karel Vos (Donna); brother-in-law Richard Visser; daughter Luella Kellar (Jack), son Dean McLeod; and grandchildren Keri, Kyle, Matthew, Kaytilyn, Kennedy, Blake, Hunter, Jonathan, Kenneth, Krystal, Gregory, Joseph and Elena. She also leaves behind numerous great nephews and nieces, including great-niece Erica Lemelin whom she felt particularly close to.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14th, 2020 at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. A time of fellowship will follow at the family’s homestead.
Honourary pallbearers are Corry’s grandchildren: Keri, Kyle, Matt, Kennedy, Blake, and Hunter. Anyone wishing to make a donation may direct it to the Palliative Care Unit at Riverside Health Care Facilities.
