COLIN BURRITT BROWN

With very sad hearts, the family of Colin Burritt Brown announces his passing in Toronto, Ont.
Colin was out on his afternoon walk when he suffered a heart attack on Thursday, May 2, 2013.
Colin was born July 31, 1963 in Kenora, Ont., the first of two sons born to Allan and Shirley (nee Pearson) Brown.
As a child, Colin spent many summer days playing with cousins from all over the district. He cherished these memories and loved to tell stories from his youth.
Colin always was a hard worker—whether it was his father’s “make work” projects on weekends as a teenager, or as an adult doing skilled carpentry. Colin also worked as a fishing guide on “The Ark” on Lake of the Woods, and at many remote fly-in outpost camps.
He was a miner, trapper, heavy equipment operator, dump truck driver. and business owner. But his favourite job was being a father.
When Colin was not working, he could be found spending time with his children, whom he was so very proud of. He loved to tell people, “His daughter was a nurse!” He knew how hard Samantha had worked to become an RPN.
Colin also was so proud of his son, Clint, as his son had big boots to fill more and more every day. He loved having Clint by his side!
He cherished the time spent with his family camping, fishing, hunting, trapping, curling, and watching the Toronto Maple Leafs. Telling stories about the “Trapper’s Cabin” and hunting with his family and friends always brought a big smile to his face.
Colin always said, “No matter what happens, I will always have my memories!”
In 2001, Colin was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and he bravely fought this cancer for several years. Then in 2004, he won the battle and was told he was in “remission.”
The cancer returned after a five-year remission, and Colin needed a stem cell transplant. The bond between “the Brown Brothers” grew even stronger when, even though the odds were against them, Lance was a perfect match.
On Oct. 27, 2010, the stem cell transplant was a success and Colin conquered cancer again!
Colin was predeceased by his grandparents, Burritt and Mildred Brown and Rudolf and Lilly Pearson; and his in-laws, Roy Stigen and Marcie (Drennan) Stigen.
Colin will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sheila; son, Clint; daughter, Samantha; his parents, Allan and Shirley Brown; brother, Lance; and sister-in-law, Lori Brown.
Also surviving are his sisters-in-law, Shirley (Wayne) Reid, Stephanie (Travis) Stigen, and Stacy Brown; brothers-in-law, Buddy Stigen and Tyler (Ashley) Brown; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
Colin was united in marriage to Sheila Ann Stigen on Aug. 19, 1989. They resided in Nestor Falls, Ont., where they raised their dearly-loved children, Clint Burritt and Samantha Christine.
Home was Nestor Falls and he never wanted to move away. He felt the kindness and caring of his community every day.
A celebration of Colin’s life will be held Friday, May 10, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Nestor Falls United Church in Nestor Falls. Colin’s beloved aunt, Eileen Bragg, will officiate.
Interment will take place at a later date.
