After a courageous battle with cancer, Cindy Asselin, 50, passed away at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital in Edmonton, Alta., with her family by her side, on Tuesday, March 26, 2013.
Cindy was born in Rainy River, Ont. on Aug. 10, 1962 to Henry and Ann Asselin.
She was raised in Pinewood, Ont. along with her family. Cindy had a great love for her hometown of Pinewood, and she always looked forward to spending time with family.
For many years, she worked as a waitress in Rainy River at various restaurants. She began working for her parents’ restaurant, “Ann’s Restaurant.”
She loved to cook, preparing great meals for her family, playing cards, dancing, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Her family always could look forward to her daily phone calls checking in on them.
Cindy and John moved to Alberta, where John worked for Clark Builders. It was there she found great love for the mountains. She enjoyed her many trips to the mountains with her family.
Cindy will be lovingly remembered by her husband, John Ricci, and her children, Sonya (Johnny), Scott (Alana), and Janelle. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Luke, Christopher, Taytum, Jayden, Zack, Paisley, and Cayden.
She also is survived by her siblings, Loretta (Ron) Hosken, Randy (Gayle) Asselin, Terry Asselin, and Debbie (Ken) Whalen; father-in-law, Lenard (Millie) Ricci; and numerous in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Cindy was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Ann Asselin; mother-in-law, Helen Ricci; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A celebration of Cindy’s life will be held Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Way Catholic Church in Pinewood, with Fr. Alan Albao as celebrant.
Interment will take place at a later date.
