Charles Frances Edward Turgeon, 64, of Fort Frances, ON passed away peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2009 at the LaVerendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, ON.
Charlie was born in Fort Frances to Albert and Anne Turgeon. He lived here all of his life, contributing greatly to his community. As a young man he worked for Rainycrest then joined the Fort Frances Fire Department. He loved his job; he retired as Deputy Chief but was not content to stop. He started the Challenger mobile training unit before retiring but continued training new
fire fighters and making it available to the area until this year. Charlie spent countless hours doing safety training at our local mill and surrounding area. He also put in numerous hours working on the Fireworks displayed on July 1. He was a considerate man who was very approachable; trainees were never afraid to ask a question and friends always received a helping hand. He was united in marriage to Barbara Lampshire on September 19, 1964. Charlie and Barb spent many hours every year putting on a large and very bright Christmas display for the neighbours, it was a must see for many as it got bigger every year.
Charlie leaves behind his wife Barbara; mother Anne both of Fort Frances; stepdaughter Brenda Stuart; granddaughters Ami and Carly; brothers Albert Jr. (Linda) of Dryden and Walter (Linda) of Fort Frances; sister Evelyn (Bruce) Rawn of Fort Frances; mother-in-law Elena Lampshire of Kenora; brothers-in-law Ed (Linda) Lampshire of Gimili, MB and Rick (Linda) Lampshire of Vancouver, BC as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his
companions and Lee, his little bed partner.
He was predeceased by his father Albert and father-in-law Richard Lampshire.
A memorial mass will be held on Friday, July 24, 2009 at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Francis Pudicherry officiating.
