CECILIA WHITEFIELD

The family sadly announces the sudden passing of Cecilia Whitefield (nee Big George) on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015 in Morson, Ont.
Cecilia was born Jan. 23, 1939 to William and Rosie Big George.
She lived on the Midewiwin Road and love sharing her traditional knowledge. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and quilting, and especially being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She taught the Ojibwe language within the elementary schools of the district.
Cecilia is survived by her two children, Daniel Big George and Patricia Big George of Big Island First Nation; grandchildren, Tishina Big George (Bob Wilson), Chelsea Archie, Kyla Archie, Kyda Archie, Trevina Andy (Tyler Archie), Tamika Andy, Daniel Andy, Danier Andy, Niibin Andy, and Regan Bug George; and great-grandchildren, Janayah Big George, Nyla Archie, William Big George, Zachayas Archie, Kourage Archie, Malina Andy, and Amera Andy.
Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Cecilia was predeceased by her parents, William and Rosie Big George; husband, Darrel Whitefield; and sisters, Margaret Big George and Denise Bluebird.
A traditional wake was held Monday, March 2, 2015 from 5 p.m. at the Big Island First Nation Community Hall in Morson.
A traditional service followed on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 10 a.m., with Elder Peter Atkinson officiating.
Interment took place in the Big Island First Nation Cemetery.
The pallbearers were William Brandon, Joe Big George, Bob Wilson, Daniel Andy, Danier Andy, Bradley Kirkrude Sr., Bradley Kirkrude Jr., and Darrell Big George.
