CATHERINE EUGENIE TICHBORNE (HUBER)

Catherine Eugenie Touchburn, of Grandview Lodge in Thunder Bay, Ont., passed away quietly in her sleep at McKellar Hospital in Thunder Bay on Thursday, April 10, 2003 after a short illness.
Born in 1914 in Edmonton, Alta. to Mabel Anderson and Arthur Touchburn, the founders of Tichborne’s Agency, she grew up in Fort Frances, Ont. After completing high school, she worked in Fort Frances and Winnipeg, Man., having taken courses at Dominion Business College in Winnipeg.
Marrying Albert George Huber of Lydiatt, Man. in 1940, she resided in
Winnipeg until 1944, coming back to live in Fort Frances until 1970.
Moving to Thunder Bay, she became quite involved with many groups such as the Canadian Consumers groups, Amnesty International, Canadian Hearing
Society, and women’s advocacy groups.
She worked as a caregiver for the Red Cross, the CNIB, and Central Park Lodge.
Personal interests led her to take college and university courses in history, political science, women’s issues, and martial arts. An ardent supporter of the arts at all levels, she had been involved with Little Theatre in Fort Frances.
A fervent reader, she was an astute observer of national and international
affairs. Her heart lay with oppressed peoples of the world and the struggle
for rights and benefits of all workers.
Interest in world history led to a lifelong interest in genealogy. Her
irrepressible memory of family names and events led to extensive works on
family history.
She was proud of her French-Canadian background beginning with Louis Hebert in 1617. Through her Anderson side, she was related to Highland Gordons, Mackays, Sinclairs, and Munros.
She forever will be remembered in the hearts and minds of her sister, Donna
Norell of St. Catharines, Ont.; son, Cliff Huber (Shelley Gerig) of Kakabeka Falls, Ont.; grandsons, Brian Huber (Leanne) of Thunder Bay, Ont. and Brad (Brandy) of Calgary, Alta.; great-grandsons, Tyler and Tanner of Calgary, Alta.; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A sister, Patricia Pleimling, passed away in 1999 in International Falls, Mn.
Cremation and private family memorials have taken place.
Remembrances of her may be kindly donated to a charity of one’s choice.
