It is with great sadness that the family of Carolyn Jean (Bergstrom) Stamarski announces her passing on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Man.
Carolyn was the second daughter born on Sept. 27, 1955 to Hans and Dorothy (Fisher) Bergstrom of Nestor Falls, Ont.
Carolyn grew up and attended elementary school in Nestor Falls until 1964, when, along with her parents and older sister, Barbara Holland, she moved to Fort Frances, Ont.
It was here that her youngest sister, Eleanor Grant, was born, completing the family of three girls.
After completing secondary school at Fort Frances High School, Carolyn went to work—first at Target and then as a doctor’s assistant at the Fort Frances Clinic.
For a number of years, Carolyn was a well-known caller at the Fort Frances Bingo Hall. She also was a rural route mail courier until she retired due to medical problems.
Carolyn married Richard Brian Stamarski on Aug. 13, 1977 at St. Mary’s Church, and together they built their new home. It was while living here that their sons, Christopher and Andrew, were born.
As well as being dedicated to her family and friends, Carolyn was, for many years, an avid bowler. She also coached YBC, was a Master bowler, and bowled and coached at many provincial and national competitions.
She also volunteered with the Sunshine Bowlers and was, at the time of her passing, president of the Fort Frances Bowling Club.
Friends who knew Carolyn were well aware of how important Thursday “Wing Night” was to her and Rick.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Rick; sons, Christopher (Tanya and children, Brittany, Kaley, and Cameron) of Parrish, Fla. and Andrew (Mary) of Fort Frances, Ont.; and sisters, Barb (Bill) Holland of Emo, Ont. and Ellie (Des) Grant of Fort Frances, Ont.
Also surviving are her brothers-in-law, Dale of Devlin, Ont. and Mike (Kim) of Toronto, Ont.; sister-in-law, Pat of Kingston, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, one uncle, and one aunt.
Carolyn was predeceased by her parents, Hans and Dorothy Bergstrom; in-laws, Mildred and Stanley Stamarski; grandparents, Bergstrom and Fisher; brother-in-law, Duane Stamarski; sister-in-law, Sheri Stamarski; as well as a number of aunts and uncles.
A funeral mass was held Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Fort Frances, officiated by Fr. Francis Pudicherry.
Interment followed at Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
