CAROL ELIZABETH ANN (BETTY) FYFE

Carol Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Fyfe passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008 at Lacombe Hospital in Lacombe, Alta. after a year-long battle with cancer.
Born in Hamilton, Ont. on Dec. 24, 1943, Betty was the eldest daughter of Fred and Mary Clinker. In 1952, the family moved from Dryden, Ont. to Fort Frances, Ont., where Betty was raised and graduated from high school.
She went on to graduate from The Nightingale School of Nursing in Toronto in 1963, and many years later returned to university where she obtained her BScN.
Betty loved to travel so at a very young age, she joined the Canadian Armed Forces, where she met Jacques Fyfe. They married and spent three-and-a-half years in Germany before returning to Quebec City. Their next move took them to Shefferville, Que., where they formed many lasting friendships while raising their young family.
In 1974, they moved west to Fort McMurray, Alta., where Betty continued nursing until retirement. Betty and Jacques retired to Lacombe in 1998.
Since her retirement, Betty had the opportunity to travel extensively; she was always planning the next trip, including a trip to Ireland this past spring.
Most summers, she would return to Rocky Islet Bay, where she welcomed the solitude. She enjoyed the time spent there with her children, grandchildren, family, and friends.
Betty will be missed by her loving husband of 42 years and her three children, Carole (Ryan) Morcom of Red Deer, Alta., Michel (Cristal) Fyfe of Selkirk, Man., and Diane (Cameron) MacEachern of Kingston, Ont.; and seven grandchildren, Alexi, Peter, and James Morcom, Eleri, Niall, and Carly MacEachern, and Rylind Fyfe.
Betty also is survived by her mother, Mary Clinker; sister, Janice (Robin) Wright and brother, Ernie (Lynda) Clinker, all of Fort Frances, Ont.; and sister, Loralin Tansley of Brantford, Ont. She also will be missed by many nieces and nephews, extended family in Quebec, and many friends.
She was predeceased by an infant brother, Fredrick; her father, Fred; nephew, Dustin; and an infant grandson, Nicholas.
Betty loved people around her and was involved in a number of church and community activities. She was an avid quilter, enjoyed crafts, playing bridge, and square dancing, but mostly she loved being with her grandchildren. Teaching her eldest granddaughter, Eleri, to quilt this past July was her most recent project.
A memorial mass took place Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008 at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Lacombe.
A memorial service and internment will be celebrated in Fort Frances at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
