Carol Jean Driscoll, 69, of Nett Lake, Mn., passed away Monday, Sept. 13, 2010 in Rochester, Mn. after a lengthy illness.
She grew up on Basswood Lake and in Ely, Mn. She lived in Fort Frances, Ont., and later in Thunder Bay, Ont., where she completed her education, and was a strong advocate for native people.
She worked in educational settings and many community organizations promoting the health, education, and welfare of aboriginal people, including the Ontario Native Women’s Association, where she served on the board.
She also worked as administrative law judge for the Ontario Social Assistance Review Board.
She returned to Minnesota and worked to protect the welfare of native families and children.
Carol is survived by one daughter, Jennie Rowland of Grand Rapids, Mn.
A traditional tribal service was held Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the Nett Lake Community Center near Orr, Mn.
