With heavy hearts, the family is sorry to announce the passing of Carl Roger Bolen at his home in Atikokan, Ont. on Wednesday, May 16, 2018.
His favourite country music was playing softly in the background.
Carl was born at home in Shenston Township, Ont. on Nov. 29, 1937. He was the youngest child of Robert and Beatrice (Andrews) Bolen. He was a lucky boy coming from a large family of 12 children, with eight boys and four girls.
At the age of 15, he hopped on a freight car headed east to Atikokan looking for work. He wasn’t successful but returned again at the age of 17. He got a job at Steep Rock Mine dredging and later at Caland Mine.
He went on to work at Mando Pulp and Paper in the logging sector, then later moved on to Great Lakes Paper, where he remained for 29 years until his retirement at the age of 65.
Carl was united in marriage to Valerie Schram, celebrating 52 enjoyable years together. Family was important to Carl and he was a wonderful father to Carla (Dean) Gerrie and Corina Bolen. He also was a special grandfather to Graesen, Keighan, and Kharis Gerrie, and Jaycelin Bolen.
Also left mourn his passing is his sister, Annie (Melvin) Armstrong of Rainy River, Ont.; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Sharon Halley, Norma (Harvey) Ossachuk, Dennis (Lavina) Schram, Donnie (Bonnie) Schram, Leslie Schram, Faye (Albert) Gouliquer, Philip (Sharon) Schram, Betty (Morley) Bolen, Tim Nordin and Wendy Cyr; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and good friends.
Carl was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Beatrice; sisters, Maybelle, Isabelle, and Kay; and brothers, Norman, Clarence, William, Raymond, Allan, Frank, and Donald.
He also was predeceased by his sisters-in-law, Stella Bolen, Monica Bolen, and Diane Nordin; brother-in-law, George Halley; nephews, Jack Bolen, Wayne Bolen, Terry Bolen, and Allan Bolen; and niece, Susan Halley.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 1 p.m. at the Riverview United Church in Atikokan, with visitation one hour prior.
Interment in the Bolen family plot at Barwick Cemetery at 11 a.m. on the following day.
The pallbearers will be Garfield Faragher, Don Bolen Jr., Philip Schram, Maurice Chabot, Graesen Gerrie, and Morley Bolen.
