CARL NESTOR SHABATURA

Carl Shabatura, 82, of Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Sunday Aug. 22, 2010 with his family by his side.
He was born July 8, 1928 to Peter and Pearl Shabatura. He was raised in Fort Frances, attending school here.
As a young man, he enjoyed playing hockey, curling, and baseball, as well as hunting and fishing.
Carl was united in marriage to Ailene McKelvie on May 21, 1949.
He became employed as a clerk with the O&M pulp and paper mill in Fort Frances, which required that Carl continue his education and he spent five years of his evenings studying by correspondence to earn his accounting degree.
He also taught himself to fly, becoming a private pilot.
Carl also was an active member of the sportsmen’s club, as well as the Elks Lodge.
Carl was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Pearl; wife, Ailene on March 19, 2002; and brother, John.
He leaves behind his daughter, Karen and husband, Gordon Bell, of Alberton Township, Ont.; son, Kurt and wife, Gloria, of Fort Frances, Ont.; grandchildren, Shauna McKee, Heather and husband, Terry Krawchuk, Jeremy Bell (Alison Bragg), Brooke Shabatura, Brett Shabatura, and Andrew Maki and Krystal Maki; and great-grandchildren, Tanner Bell, Cody Bell, Hannah McKee, April McKee, Jayla Krawchuk, Cassie Krawchuk, Gunner Krawchuk, and Hunter Bell.
Also surviving are his brothers, Jerry Shperuk and Michael Shperuk and wife, Sylvia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Friends are invited to join the family in celebrating Carl’s life on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010 from 1-3 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
The honourary pallbearers will be Carl’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
