CARL DOMINIC BRAGG

Carl Dominic Bragg, 83, of Finland, Ont., passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005.
He was born May 14, 1922 in Killiker, Mn. to the late Milton and Anna Bragg. Carl moved to Canada in 1923 and settled in Finland. He was educated and had lived all of his life in Finland.
In his earlier years, Carl worked for his father at Bragg’s Sawmill. He later enlisted with the Canadian Army and served overseas in the North Pacific, including Japan and the Aleutian Islands.
Following the war, Carl moved to Brandon, Man. From Brandon, the duration of his enlistment was spent in Shilo, where he was stationed, and also where he met Alverna Armstrong.
On April 17, 1947, he was united in marriage to Alverna.
Carl later moved to Fort Frances, Ont., where he worked for the Department of Highways for a few years. He later purchased his own truck and started work in the logging and gravel business as a contractor.
Carl was a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #99 in Emo, Ont., and recently had received his 60-year pin.
Carl was passionate about sports, especially golf and football. He also loved travelling, and had travelled to Spain and spent considerable time in New Orleans.
Carl will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife, Alverna in 1995; one granddaughter, Jamie; and two grandsons, Brent and Paul.
Carl is survived by his four daughters, Candis and husband, Glen Cann, of Dryden, Ont., Linda and husband, Orval Gouliquer, of Ignace, Ont., Bonnie and husband, Ron Labuik, of Ignace, Ont., and Cindy and husband, Fred Westphal, of Winnipeg, Man.; eight grandchildren, Wendy, Neil, Tiesha, Natalie, Tron, Ashleigh, Braeden, and Katrina; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
He also is survived by one brother, David Bragg and wife, Eileen, of Finland, Ont.; one sister, Anna Jondreau of Thunder Bay, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 24, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Knox United Church in Emo. Rev. Frances Flook will officiate, with interment in Chapple Cemetery in Barwick, Ont.
The Royal Canadian Legion Br. #99 Colour Party will provide the military tribute.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
The pallbearers will be Don Strom, Ted Halverson, Glen Jackson, Dan Bragg, Greg Ferris, and Roger Lougheed.
The honourary pallbearers will be Kim Lauzon and Patty Labbe.
