CARL C. SCHAUM

Carl C. Schaum, 76, of 322 Kerr Place, Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
He was born May 5, 1928 in Huenfeld, Germany to the late Karl and Anna Maria Schaum.
Carl immigrated to Canada in 1953, and his mother and two brothers followed in 1956. They settled in the London, Ont. area, where Carl met the former Margrit Woerz and later married her on June 25, 1960.
Carl farmed for many years before moving into contracting and becoming a successful contractor in the London area. In 1980, Carl and his wife and children moved to the Emo, Ont. area, where he continued his career in contracting.
Carl had a strong faith that showed in all aspects of his life. He was an active member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Emo and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He later moved to Fort Frances and became active in St. Mary’s parish.
He was predeceased by his parents and also his step-father, Josef Schaum; one brother, Josef L. Schaum; and two nephews, Joseph M. Schaum and Thomas A. Schaum.
Carl is survived by his wife, Margrit Schaum; five children, Dagmar Plumhoff of Germany, Carl P. Schaum and wife, Debbie, of Devlin, Ont., Doris and husband, Larry Temple, of Stratford, Ont., Caren and husband, Tim Siegfried, of Rochester, Mn., and Ingrid and husband, Eric Carlson, of Atikokan, Ont.; eight grandchildren, Justin and wife, Menolie, Jonathan, Jennifer, Jessie, Carly, Olivia, Sarah, and Terra; one brother, Helmut Schaum and wife, Hilde, of London, Ont.; one sister-in-law, Ilse and husband, Ray Jones, and one brother-in-law, Dieter Woerz and wife, June, all of London, Ont.; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances. Fr. Francis Pudicherry officiated, with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Visitation was held Monday, Aug. 16, 2004 from 7:30 until 9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Parish prayers were offered at 8:30 p.m.
Pallbearers were Marcus Schaum, Brad Norris, Keith McKinnon, Bill Hamilton, Don Cumming, and Glenn Carmody.
Honourary pallbearers were Steve and Joyce Scalzo, Lynn Kehler, Jim and Marlene McQuarrie, Allen and Linda Empy, Neil Grant, James Andrews, and Art Hammond.
