BRIAN ‘KELLEY’ MONKMAN Oct. 22, 1967-Sept. 5, 2019

Monkman, Brian

It is with great sadness that the family of Brian “Kelley” Monkman announces his passing after a brief illness, on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019, at the age of 51 years.
Kelley will be lovingly remembered by his children, son, Justin Morrisseau; and daughter, Mickey Morrisseau.
Kelley will also be remembered by his mother, Lydia Dumas; sisters, Lesley Dumas and Karen Carrothers; and brother, Adam Carrothers, as well as by his father, Brian Monkman; sister, Melanie Monkman; and brother, Buddy Monkman; and numerous cousins.
Kelley was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Christine and Lawrence Monkman; and maternal grandparents, Mary and Samson Beaulieu, and sister, Crystal Racette.
Kelley was born and raised in Winnipeg. He was raised by his grandmother, Christine Monkman. He spent many of his summers and Christmas breaks at his other grandparents Abraham and Ida’s place in Eriksdale, then Vogar, Man.
Everyone who knew Kelley, knew how funny and crazy he could be. He was big-hearted, kind and had many friends.
Kelley graduated from Business Administration at Success Compu College in Winnipeg, Man. He worked for years at Dominion Tanners and CanWest Global.
He loved playing Sports Select and cheering on his teams, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Winnipeg Jets.
Kelley also enjoyed spending time with his Couchiching family and friends. He would ride into Couchiching where he’d spend time golfing with the boys: Joe, Bono, Sheldon and Doug; play a few sets of tennis with Dale and Jesse; and he took his kids, Justin and Mickey, and nieces, Meghan and Mack, fishing up at the “hill.” I’m sure it was catch and release because they never came back with anything.
A wake will be held on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019 at 5 p.m. at the Multi-Use Facility on Couchiching First Nation.
A funeral service in memory of Kelley will be held on Monday, Sept. 16, 2019 at 11 a.m., at the Multi-Use Facility, Couchiching First Nation, with Elder Tommy Councillor officiating.
Pallbearers will be Dale Morrisseau, Steve Perrault, Jesse Morrisseau, Sheldon Morrisseau, Anthony Morrisseau, Elmer Spence, Ken Morrisseau, and Erwin Bruyere. Honorary pallbearers are Margaret Houle, Rhonda Monkman, Kevin Monkman, Wade Houle, Summer Monkman, Chelsea Bruce, Emma Edwards, Verna Paul, Darlene Morrisseau, Lucille “Bugsy” Morrisseau, Laura Spence and Elaine Morrisseau.
Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Kelley to the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba.
