BRIAN FREDERICK DOUGLAS HOLLIDAY

Peacefully, Brian Frederick Douglas Holliday was called home to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on Monday, April 6, 2015 at the age of 94 years.
Brian is lovingly remembered by his wife of 70 years, Margaret; children, Jane, Alex (Barbara), Jenny (Ab) Chudley, (Laurie Moxham), and Judie (Kevin); 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and the MacIntosh and Colburn nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Brian; sister, Mary MacIntosh; and great-grandson, Justin.
Brian was born Jan. 23, 1921 in Hastings, Sussex, England and immigrated to Canada with his family when he was six years old.
As a young man, he served as a pilot with the rank of Flying Officer in the RCAF during WWII for two-and-a-half years in England, India, and Burma.
Upon returning to Canada, he married his sweetheart, Margaret, on July 22, 1044.
Brian was an exceptionally gifted man who worked in many jobs from carpentry to teaching college while providing for is family.
During his time as co-ordinator of special events with OAMR, Brian was instrumental in bring the Special Olympics to Canada.
Moving west to Manitoba, Brian worked as the executive director of CAMR Manitoba (Association for Community Living).
He received the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Award for his work on behalf of the mentally-challenged.
Brian also was a life-long member of the Anglican Church and served as Warden, Sides Person, and Vestry Member in churches across Canada.
Many of his carpentry projects are still in use in those churches.
A celebration of Brian’s life has taken place at St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Cathedral in Kelowna, B.C., with The Very Rev. Nissa Basbaum presiding.
