BOUDREAU MICHAEL ‘BUD’ FRIDAY
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our husband, father, and grandfather, great-grandfather, Boudreau Michael “Bud” Friday, 80, on Friday, Jan. 12, 2007 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Bud was born Aug. 10, 1926 at Pipestone Lake, near Seine River, Ont., to the late Charles and Mary Friday. Bud grew up in the Seine River First Nation area, where he hunted and trapped for many years.
During WW II, he enlisted with the Canadian Army and served overseas. Upon his discharge from the army, he returned home, where he later was united in marriage to Jessie Swanson.
While raising their family, they moved to Atikokan, Ont., where Bud started working in the mine until it closed. Bud then started work as a First Nation constable in Rainy River District until his early retirement.
He enjoyed being with family, and also enjoyed pow-wows, cultural traditions, and passing on cultural teachings and singing Ojibway songs.
He was predeceased by one daughter, Charlene Friday; brothers and sisters, Jack Spencer, Alice Johnson, Mary Blackjack, Rose Snowball, Johnie and Tommy Friday, and Harry, Jim, and Wayne Lightfeather.
Bud is survived by his wife, Jessie Friday, of Seine River First Nation, Ont.; 10 children, Bernadette (Ray) McIntrye of Fernie, B.C., Louise Friday and Valerie Friday, both of Winnipeg, Man.., Kathy (James) Wynn-Kitchikeesic and Cheryl Friday, all of Thunder Bay, Ont.., Patsy Friday of Fort Frances, Ont., and Dorothy Friday (Earl Klyne), Larry Friday (Jackie Linklater), Lorraine Friday, and Terry Friday (Natalie Johnson), all of Seine River First Nation, Ont.
Also surviving are 32 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice (Robert) Chisel of Kenora, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A traditional burial ritual was held Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007 in the morning at the Seine River First Nation gymnasium. Elder Billy Blackwell officiated, with burial in the Seine River First Nation Cemetery.
A wake was held Tuesday evening at the Seine River First Nation gymnasium.
Pallbearers were Kyle Johnson, Wendal Johnson, Steve Mainville Jr., Charles Friday, John Lyons Jr., Ron Friday, Aaron Lightfeather, and Duane Johnson.
Honourary pallbearers were David Spencer, Ken Johnson, Earl Klyne, James Wynn-Kitchikeesic, Peter Klyne, and all of his beloved children, grandchildren, and dear relatives and friends.
