Bonnie Jean Brusven, 80, of Barwick, Ont., passed away peacefully with family by her side on Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at the St. Boniface General Hospital in Winnipeg, Man.
She was born May 10, 1922 in Eau Claire, Wis. to the late Edward and Nettie Galusha.
Bonnie came to Canada at a young age and settled in Piney, Man. She later moved to Bergland, Ont. and then to Barwick, where she had lived since.
She loved gardening, canning, and farming. She was a hard worker and an excellent seamstress. Her family was important to her and she also was a dedicated foster parent, taking in many foster children to care for and provide them with a home.
She was a good Christian and she loved her Lord.
Bonnie was united in marriage Aug. 2, 1941 to Norman, who survives along with their seven children, Gene (Lois) Brusven, Judy (Peter) Borger, Linda Haney, Gwen (Bob) Dimit, Don Brusven and friend, Kathy, Debbie (Joe) Schlicter, and Brenda (Larry) Hunsperger.
Also surviving are their adopted children, Anna, Alana, and Nathan; her daughter-in-law, Arnellda (Finn) Brusven; 28 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; sisters, Irene Stromness, Pat Hughes, Colleen Johnston, and Cora Selman; brothers, Jerry, Roy, Glenn, and Ken Galusha; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Jack, on Aug. 12, 1970; sisters, Shirley, Pauline, and Laura; and brothers, Elra and Jack.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 3, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home. Rev. Sandra McEvoy officiated, with interment in the Chapple Cemetery in Barwick.
Friends visited with the family Sunday, June 2, 2002 from 7 until 8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Ed Stromness, Kevin Hughes, Carl Galusha, Ken Hughes, Jerry Galusha, and Darren Borger.
