Birdena Mary Haglin, 69, passed away Monday, May 8, 2000 at the Emo Hospital. She was born in Emo, Ont. on July 25, 1930 and was raised in the area.
She was united in marriage to Elmer on Dec. 27, 1947, and they spent more than 50 years together.
In her younger years, Birdena worked at the Emo Hospital for Red Cross and Marg’s Lunch in Emo. She enjoyed bird watching, gardening, and was an animal lover.
She also was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #99 Ladies Auxiliary but Birdena’s true joy came from the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by her husband, Elmer; children, Donna (Carmon) Sheppard, Marvin, Sandy (Randy) Haney, Cal (Donna), Sadie (Keith) Smith, and Walter, all of Emo, Ont., and Wade (Rene) of Murillo, Ont.; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Nellie Holden of Fort Frances, Ont.; sister-in-law, Darlene LaBelle of Atikokan, Ont.; brother-in-law, Jack Williamson of Ear Falls, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her mother, Sadie, brothers, Charles, Walter, and Calvin, and sister, Florence, on Oct. 10, 1938 in the Dance Township fire; father, Noah on Aug. 22, 1975; son, Dwayne on Oct. 9, 1992; and brother, Ted, also in 1992.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 12, 2000 at 2 p.m. at the Emo Royal Canadian Legion Br. #99. Miriam Bowlby officiated, with interment in the Emo Cemetery.
