Betty Mary Ronning was born July 14, 1929 to Francis “Stanley” Beninger and Marjorie Beninger in Barwick, Ont.
When she was a young girl, her family moved to Emo, Ont., where she attended school.
She married Calvin Fulford in 1947 and was blessed with three children, Ralph, Janet, and Linda. After Cal’s death in 1958, Betty and her children moved to Fort Frances, Ont., where she worked as a bank teller.
In 1963, she married Wayne Ronning. They relocated to International Falls, Mn. and were blessed with a daughter, Jill. They owned and operated Ronnings Border Bargains for 36 years and Ronnings of Hayward in Wisconsin for 15 years.
During that time, Betty was an active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in International Falls.
She had an abundance of gifts, which included painting, writing poetry, wood carving, sewing, and crafts. She also had a love for fishing and spending time on Clearwater Lake.
She enjoyed playing many instruments “by ear,” including the piano, guitar, and accordion, without ever having had a formal lesson.
Her biggest love of all was her family and getting everyone together. She had an amazing sense of humour and wit; her wisdom was a guiding light for all who knew her.
During her lengthy illness, she never lost her deep faith in Jesus Christ.
Betty is survived by her husband, Wayne Ronning; daughters, Janet (Martin) Hanzlik, Linda (Gary) Skime, and Jill (Mark) Bixby; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She also is survived by her sister, Ruth Meyers; daughter-in-law, Gail Fulford; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her son, Ralph Fulford, and brother, William Beninger.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at a later date.
