It is with great sadness that the family of June Wodell announces her passing at the Peter Lougheed Centre in Calgary, Alta. with her family by her side.
June was born Oct. 13, 1941 in Fort Frances, Ont. She was raised in Fort Frances and, as a young women, moved to Winnipeg, Man. and attended beautician school. While in Winnipeg, she renewed a childhood friendship with Jerry Wodell and they were united in marriage on Dec. 6, 1968.
They returned to Fort Frances in 1970, settling down to raise their family.
June worked in various salons before opening her own business out of her home; retiring in 2000. She also was very active within the community and was a valued member of the La Verendrye Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, the C.W.L., and Rebekkah’s Lodge in Fort Frances.
In 2003, she moved Calgary to live with her daughter, Michelle. She was very grateful for the help she received from Michelle, the family, and the Peter Lougheed Centre.
She enjoyed playing Bingo and going to the casinos with her friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, William and Elizabeth Socholotuk; sister, Mary Soderholm; and her husband, Waldemar Gerald “Jerry” Wodell on July 15, 2001.
June will be greatly missed by her son, Kyle and wife, Yvonne, of Thunder Bay, Ont.; daughter, Michelle and husband, Bob Plumridge, of Calgary, Alta.; grandchildren, Brandon, Stephen, Christopher, Kylee, and Marrissa; brothers, Stan and wife, Jennie, of Fort Frances, Ont., Jack and friend, Stella, of Duluth, Mn., Garry and wife, Brenda, of Kenora, Ont., and Alex of Fort Frances, Ont.; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A prayer service was held Friday, Oct. 20, 2006 at 7 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
A memorial mass was held Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances.
Cremation has taken place, with interment at the Holy Cross Cemetery.
The honourary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Brandon, Stephen, Christopher, Kylee, and Marrissa, as well as her friends, June Drazenovich, LaDonna Klem, Helen Neurinski, Bev McCool, Dorothy Burrell, Doreen Buffington, Linda MacDonald, Amy Marchuk, and Linda Brigham.
