Betty Joyce Sedgwick, of Rainycrest Long Term Care in Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Saturday, April 4, 2009 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
Betty was born in Minneapolis, Mn.. on August 4, 1922, the only child of Carl Henry and Emma Elizabeth (Comstock) Nelson. On Sept. 17, 1942, she married John Sedgwick, who predeceased her on May 28, 2003.
After the war, Betty and John moved to Port Huron, London, Haliburton, and many places in between before settling in Dryden, Ont. for many years. John and Betty used to joke that they were moving to find better hunting and fishing spots.
In 1969, they moved to Fort Frances, where many happy times were spent at their cabin on Hopkin’s Bay.
Betty was employed at the Ministry of Natural Resources for many years. Fondly known as “Sedgie,” Betty continued to enjoy her friendship with the MNR girls long after she retired in 1986.
She also curled and enjoyed playing bridge, and was a member of the Friends of Animals.
Betty’s family includes Merribeth and Raymond McFarlane of Winnipeg, Man., Margaret and Lawrence Wilton of Dryden, Ont., David and Margaret Sedgwick of Fort Frances, Ont.; grandchildren, Scott McFarlane, Vanessa and Joey Wilson, Hilary and Chris Turchinski, and Eric Sedgwick; and great-granddaughters, Diamond and Jade Wilson.
At Betty’s request, there will be no memorial service.
