After a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s, Betty Jewell, 83, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances.
Betty was born on Aug. 6, 1933 in Devlin, Ont. to Issac and Olive Hyatt. She grew up in Devlin.
She met Louis in 1948 and they were married on Nov. 9, 1950. This November would have been their 67th wedding anniversary.
Betty worked as a telephone operator in her younger years and she also cleaned at the Toronto Dominion Bank with her good friend, Marilyn Shine.
Betty and Louis spent many years camping and boating. They squared-danced for 32 years, including travelling to Miami, Man. every Thanksgiving weekend for 19 years.
Betty and Louis liked to travel, but the highlight was their vacation to Portugal. Betty also loved to crochet and tell stories to her grandchildren of how she grew up, and she loved to bake cookies for them.
Betty will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband, Louis; children, Wayne (Vicki) of Fort Frances, Ont., Terry (Kim) of Forest, Ont., Rick (Kathy) of Fort Frances, Ont., Greg (Diane) of Fort Frances, Ont., Angela (Darrell) DeGagne of Fort Frances, Ont., and Cory (Jodi) of Fort Frances, Ont; grandchildren, Shanna (Travis) Weir, Heather (Dustin) Faragher, Adam Jewell, Ashlyn (Tyler Rooley) Jewell, Katlynn (Ian Lockman) Jewell, Jodi Moore, Jaime Moore, Elyssa Minelly, Nicole (Brad) Hill, Marina Jewell, Brett Jewell, Christina Jewell, Joey Jewell, Dawn (Jamie) Galusha, Jessica (Jeff) Ogden, Kyle (April) DeGagne, Bailey (Bryce Hagen) Jewell, Jordin (Lindsay Lizotte) Jewell, Emilee Jewell, and Seth Jewell; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Betty also is survived by her brother-in-law, Arlo (Donna Boulley) Jewell of Atikokan, Ont.; and five nieces and one nephew.
Betty was predeceased by her parents, Issac and Olive Hyatt; in-laws, Gilbert and Ella Jewell; brother, Allan; and sister-in-law, Verna Hyatt.
A private family service will be held, with Pastor Brian Keffer officiating.
