BERNICE MARGARET ELYK

Bernice Margaret Elyk, age 71, of 1214 Third St. E., Fort Frances, Ontario passed away on Friday, Aug. 22, 2008 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, ON.
Bernice was born on July 12, 1937 in Grandview, Manitoba to the late Lawrence and Mary LeFort. When Bernice was young, her family moved to Sapawe where they lived for several years until moving to Fort Frances where they had resided since.
Bernice worked in the Housekeeping Department at La Verendrye General Hospital for approximately 20 years until her retirement in 1996.
On Jan. 16, 1980, Bernice was united in marriage to Michael Elyk. Her favourite pastime was singing country music and playing the guitar which she thoroughly enjoyed. Bernice had a voice which could be heard without the use of an amplifier.
During her retirement, time in Arizona was used in making afghans for each of her related families. Her family was most important to her and anyone talking with her became aware of that in short order. Bernice’s favourite place was sitting at the back of the house having a few drinks and watching her garden grow.
She was predeceased by one sister Sylvia Donison, and one brother Frances (Bucky) LeFort.
Bernice is survived by her husband Michael Elyk of Fort Frances, ON.; three sons, Ron (Gail) LeFort of Winnipeg, MB., Larry Eberhart of International Falls, MN., and Steve (Lori) Eberhart of Minneapolis, MN., two daughters, Mary (Kent) Korpi, and Karen (Chris) Dillman all of International Falls, MN., fifteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She is also survived by four brothers, Clarence (Audry) LeFort of Winnipeg, MB., Dennis LeFort of Moosejaw, SK., Brian (Lynn) LeFort, and Archie Bronconnier all of Winnipeg, MB.; four sisters, Rowena (Mike) Hammond, and Delores (Bob) Jordan all of Fort Frances, ON., Ella Lamontagne of Roblin, MB., and Matilda Lucier of Williams Lake, B.C.; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, ON. Pastor Brian Keffer officiated with interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances, ON.
Visitation was held on Tuesday afternoon from 1 p.m. until service time at Green Funeral Home.
The active pallbearers were her son, Ron LeFort, son-in-law, Kent Korpi, brothers, Clarence LeFort, Dennis LeFort and Brian LeFort, and brother-in-law, Mike Hammond.
