BERNA SHORTREED

Berna Shortreed, formerly Stamarski, 83, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
Her parents, Mikolaj and Aniela Stamarski, immigrated to Canada from Poland and settled in Transcona, Man., where they had a beautiful daughter named Berna on Sept. 1, 1923.
Upon moving to Fort Frances, she attended Robert Moore School and Fort Frances High School, and later met the love of her life, Raymond (Ollie) Shortreed.
They were united in marriage on April 27, 1941 and resided in Fort Frances, where they raised their four children.
Berna had a love and green thumb for flowers, as you could tell by her
beautiful gardens she planted and nursed each year.
Berna was predeceased by her husband, Ollie, on Dec. 16, 1982; her parents; her brother, Eugene Stamarski; sisters, Julia Piotrowski and Mary Shortreed; and son-in-law, Leonard Tomczak.
She is survived by her three daughters, Darlene Tomczak of International Falls, Mn., and Gloria (Glen) Bergner and Marilyn (Mario) Venerus, all of Fort Frances, Ont.; and one son, Randy (Susan) Shortreed, of Fort Frances, Ont.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Rae-Lynn Tomczak, Darrie Tomczak, Jay
Tomczak, Taunia Klem, Dana Bergner, Debbie Paul, Shannon Venerus Brown, Melisa Wilson, Ryan Shortreed, and Katelyn Shortreed; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Stanley (Mildred) Stamarski; sisters-in-law, Ethel Cooke of B.C. and Stella Stamarski of International Falls; special niece, Shirley Buttner; and several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral in Fort Frances. Fr. Roger Bergkamt will officiate, followed by interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Friends may visit with the family prior to the funeral service from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007 at Green Funeral Home.
Her children will carry her to her resting place.
