BEATRICE MAGEL

It is with great sadness that the family of Bea (“Snack”) Magel announces her sudden passing, at the age of 83, on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at the Red Lake Hospital.
The last few weeks of her life she fought a courageous battle with heart disease. Through everything, she kept her sense of dignity along with her witty sense of humour.
Bea will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her children, Earl (Diane), Lyle (Liz), Amanda (Bill), Jo-Ann, Diane (Bruce), Betty-Ann (Terry), and Gail (Ron).
Bea leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren who were the love of her life.
She also leaves behind her special friends, Rita and Bob and Elaine and Don.
Surviving family members also include her sisters, Dolly, Rose, and Lila; and brothers, Arthur and Willy.
Bea was predeceased by her mother, Marguerite (1993); father, Billy (1987); and brothers, Gene (1977) and Donald (2003).
Her husband, Bill, passed away in 1995.
Bea was born Nov. 3, 1927 in Fort Frances, Ont. to Billy and Marguerite Woods. She spent most of her young life on Rainy Lake.
After meeting and marrying Bill, they moved their young family from Amesdale to Red Lake in 1964, where she resided until her passing.
Mom was an awesome cook and worked for years at the Lakeview Restaurant and later at the Balmer and Howey Bay. But the cooking she enjoyed the most was for her family and friends.
Many a conversation took place over a bowl of one of Mom’s homemade soups.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 7, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Chukuni United Church, with Rev. Brian Falkenholt officiating.
A private family interment will take place at a later date.
In memoriam donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation c/o the Herold Funeral Home, P.O. Box 237, Red Lake, Ont., P0V 2M0.
