Beatrice Abbott, 93, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at La Verendrye General Hospital. She was born Sept. 24, 1908 in Stevington, England to the late John and Sarah Curtis.
Beatrice came to Canada on March 4, 1920 and landed in Nova Scotia. She later moved to Emo and then to Fort Frances.
She was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 Ladies Auxiliary, a member of Knox United Church, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, and bowling, and was a member of the Fort Frances Bowling League.
She also was a Queen at T.O.P.S.
Beatrice was united in marriage to Stanley Herbert Abbott, who predeceased her Nov. 2, 1984. She also was predeceased by her son, Ronald; four brothers, and a granddaughter; Shelley.
She is survived by her children, James (Beatrice) of Palmerston, Ont., Darlene (Jimmie) Doris of St. Helens, Ore., William (Carolyn) of Peterborough, Ont., Douglas (Mary Ann) of Salmon Arm, B.C., and Carolyn Abbott of Fort Frances, Ont.
Also surviving is her daughter-in-law, Nell Abbott, of North Vancouver, B.C.; 12 grandchildren, Rhonda, Curtis, Corey, Cathy, Jamie, Bonnie, Randy, Lorie, Cheryl, Karen, Doug, and Debbie; 25 great-grandchildren; one brother, Johnathan (Jean) Curtis of Emo; two sisters, Dorothy Larson of Seattle, Wash., and Connie (Milton) Stroble of Santa Fe Springs, Calif.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Knox United Church in Fort Frances. Rev. Jill Warner officiated, with interment in Riverview Cemetery.
Friends visited with the family on Tuesday, May 21, 2002 from 7 until 8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Jim Abbott, Bill Abbott, Doug Abbott, Roy Mills, Glen Westover, and Rick Macedon.
