Barney McCanna

March 27, 1929 – October 15, 2021

Barney passed away peacefully at the Bayview nursing home, Point Claire, Quebec, at the age of 92. Barney was preceded in death by his wife Lois after 61 years of marriage. He is survived by his son Mark (Chantal) and will be missed by many friends and family.

Born in East Angus, Quebec, Barney worked in the paper industry all his life starting in Red Rock, Kenora, Fort Frances and finally Montréal where he retired. He was a Chemical Engineer, a Shriner, a golfer, a fisherman, and he was my Dad. He built a cabin, a house, a sauna, a rock wall, a stone fireplace, there was nothing my Dad couldn’t do. There was one thing he didn’t do and that was complain. He had a heart attack, a stroke that left him paralyzed, and COVID but he never complained and always had a smile for me when I showed up with his favourite meal, ribs.

The last years of my Dad’s life were spent at the Bayview nursing home where he received exceptional care, activities and outings. I can’t say enough about the team on the 5th floor and the recreation department.

Cremation has taken place, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
