BARB EASTON

It is with great sadness that the family of Barbara Dorothy Easton (nee Henderson) announces her passing on Friday, May 14, 2010.
Barb was born Jan. 18, 1920 to Andrew and Elizabeth Henderson of Rainy River, Ont.
She and her husband, Jack, were married in 1943 in Rainy River, and 14 years later they relocated to Fort Frances, Ont. with their young family.
Barb and Jack raised their family and enjoyed living on Sixth Street for 50 years.
Barb was predeceased by her husband, Jack, in 2004. In 2007, Barb moved to Columbus Place, where she spent three years with her many friends and especially enjoyed her neighbours, Marvel and Lou.
Barb enjoyed all sports, but had a special passion for curling, golf, and baseball, especially her Blue Jays. In 1991, Barb was awarded a Lifetime Membership with the Fort Frances Ladies Curling Club.
Barb always could be found at her grandchildren’s sporting events, cheering them on. She was their biggest fan.
For three years, Barb owned and operated Al’s Coffee Cup and her children fondly remember her streaking from place to place in her truck. Once her children were grown, she worked at Rainycrest, retiring in 1984 after 15 years.
Left to cherish her memory are her five children, Jim (Donna) Easton of Boissevain, Dawn (Lorne) Hayes of Atikokan, Cindy (Hal) Fjeldsted of Kirkland Lake, Bill (Jeanette) Easton of Fort Frances, and Laurel (Al) Basaraba of Fort Frances; 12 grandchildren, Jana (Dean) Bartley of The Pas; Patti (Ryan) Bell of Brandon, Tracy Hayes of Thunder Bay, Sandra (James) McIntyre of Atikokan, Andrew (Krista) Fjeldsted of Red Lake, Chris Fjeldsted of Red Lake, Dana Fjeldsted of Dryden, Jim Easton of Fort Frances, Carole Easton of Fort Frances, Matt Basaraba of Calgary, Kate Basaraba of Fort Frances, and Joe Basaraba of Fort Frances; and nine great-grandchildren, Jaiden and Rylan Bartley, Taylor, Dustin, and Jordan Bell, Tori Hayes, Robert McIntyre, Aiden Fjeldsted, and Reed McKinnon.
Barb also is survived by her sisters, Kay Rosse of Vancouver and Betty Lou Nordin of Rainy River; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Barb’s life was held Wednesday, May 19, 2010 from 2-4 p.m. at the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau at 140 Fourth St. W. (old CN station).
