Audrey L. Rahko, 73, of Two Harbors, Mn., passed away Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009 at her home after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Audrey was born Aug. 1, 1936 in Fort Frances, Ont. to Robert and Ethel (Wall) McDonald. She grew up on the family farm in Stratton, Ont. and attended schools there.
After living in Winnipeg, Man. for several years, Audrey moved to Two Harbors in 1967 and was employed by the Gopher State Telephone Company (later Contel and GTE) from 1967 until retiring in 1990.
After retirement from GTE, she worked at the American Legion until 2003.
Audrey enjoyed curling, as well as camping and fishing at Lake Winnibigoshish. She was a member of the VFW and American Legion auxiliaries, and the Women of the Moose.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Elmer and James; her parents; grandson, Mathew; and her husband, Gary Rahko, in 1999.
Audrey is survived by a son, Elmer (Rhonda) Tough of Steinbach, Man.; her daughter, Donna (Frank) Herold of Winnipeg, Man.; a stepdaughter, Gloria Bolen of Two Harbors, Mn.; brothers, Clarence “Ken” (Lorraine) McDonald of Stratton, Ont. and Ralph McDonald of Knoxville, Tenn.; her grandsons, Jeff and Justin; and nieces and nephews, Dawn Armstrong, Murray (Shelley) and Shawn (Marni) McDonald, and Nicole (Darren) Robinson.
Also surviving are Audrey’s great-nieces and nephews whom she loved to visit, R.J. McDonald, Dylan, Shaelyn and Delaney McDonald, and Carter, Cohen, and Cathryn Robinson.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009 at noon at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Two Harbors, followed by lunch at the Moose Lodge.
Interment will take place in Morley Cemetery in Stratton at a later date.
