It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Astrid Sobkowicz (Seger) on Friday, January 19, 2024, at the age of 89 years.
Astrid was born on May 4, 1934, in Fort Frances, Ontario, to Anna and Jonas Seger, who had immigrated from Sweden.
On January 14, 1950, she married Walter Sobkowicz (The Barber) and together they built their home and raised their five children.
Astrid loved to garden and her yard was always full of flowers. She joined the Fort Frances Horticultural Society and was president for many years.
Astrid will be greatly missed by her daughter Linnea; son Konrad (Sue); daughters Renae (Bill), Sherry (Tom); and son Michael; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Astrid was predeceased by her husband Walter; parents Anna and Jonas; siblings Emmy Gavin (Fred), Ina McVey (Jack), Ingrid Simmons (Fred) and Elov Seger; in-laws Mike and Olga Sobkowicz, Ann and Walter Dolk, Mary and Tom Charnesky; son-in law David Thiessen and daughter in-law Sue Foran.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
