Ashley Andy passed away suddenly June 28, 2003. Ashley was born March 6, 1983 in Rainy River, Ont. and lived all his life in Big Grassy River First Nation, Ont.
Ashley was raised by his aunt, Gladys Andy (Bryan Andy), for 17 years. As Ashley grew up, his uncles, Leonard Andy and Bryan Andy, taught him many outdoorsman skills, ranging from hunting to commercial fishing. He knew the surrounding lake very well.
Ashley gave 100 percent in everything he did. Ashley loved what he did.
As he grew into a young man, he left an impression on those who knew him as a loyal, caring happy individual. He spent a lot of his time visiting with his family and friends. He also spent his days fishing and playing a variety of sports like golf, baseball, and hockey.
Ashley will be missed as a brother, uncle, grandchild, nephew, and friend.
He was predeceased by both his parents in 1985, Allen Michael Gibbons Sr. and Carol Andy.
Ashley also was predeceased by one sister, Jennifer Ann Andy; uncles, Bryan Andy Sr., Harry Gibbins, Jim Gibbins, Alexander Gibbins Jr., and Clifford Gibbins; aunt, Katharine Jenson; and grandparents, Alexander Gibbins Sr. and Katie Gibbins, and Pete Andy.
He was survived by his grandmother, Lila Andy of Big Grassy River F.N., Ont.; uncles, Leonard Andy and Colin Andy, both of Big Grassy River, F.N., Ont., Lenny Gibbins (Roberta Jack) of Big Island F.N., Ont., and Lawrence Gibbins of Morson, Ont.; and aunts, Gladys Andy of Rainy River, Ont., Janet Larson (Lawrence Larson) of Rainy River, Ont., Diane Major (Brian Major) of Morson, Ont., and Rita Andy of Big Grassy River F.N., Ont.
Also surviving are his brothers, Allan Gibbins Jr. of Rainy River, Ont., Waylon Gibbins of Big Grassy River F.N., Ont., and Peter Gibbins of Big Grassy River F.N., Ont.; sister, Melissa Archie (Robin Archie Sr.) of Fort Frances, Ont.; niece, Kenisha Archie, and nephews, Robin Archie Jr. and Lucas Archie, all from Fort Frances, Ont.; as well as numerous cousins.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 5, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Bergland, Ont. Mr. Willie Longenecker officiated, with interment in Bergland Cemetery in Bergland.
Visitation for family and friends was held Friday, July 4, 2003 from 7 until 9 p.m. at the Rainy River Funeral Home in Rainy River, Ont.
Pallbearers were Dean Gibbins, Sheldon Tuesday, Jeff Morrison, Chris Andy, Clarence Gibbins Jr., and Jules Gibbins.
Honourary pallbearers were Brian Major, Joseph Andy, Jason Gibbins, Gary Tuesday, Robin Archie, and Albert Wilson Sr.
