It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, and sister, Arvilla (“Billie”) Virginia Degelman, age 90, on Friday, March 15, 2019 in Victoria, B.C. with her daughters at her side.
Arvilla was born in Popple, Mn. on May 2, 1928 and grew up in International Falls, Mn.
She was predeceased by her husband, Paul; parents, Esther (Grier) and Harry Schickling; sister, Ione Boomgaarden; niece, Joanne Boomgaarden; niece, Debbie Anderson; and half-brother, Oliver Hallin.
She will be deeply missed by her daughters, Beverly Brunetta (Clare) and their children, Paul, Danielle Claire, and Michael, Janet Degelman, and Karen Conway (Russ) and their children, Virginia and Olivia; and her sister, June Anderson.
Arvilla began her career at MANDO as a payroll clerk the day after she graduated from International Falls High School.
After raising her family, she resumed her career as a secretary at the Fort Frances Public Health Unit.
She enjoyed summers at the cabin on Red Gut Bay with her husband, Paul, where together they built Degelman’s Christie Creek Road.
She enjoyed bowling with her many friends at Plaza Lanes, where she was the first in any league there to bowl a perfect game.
Blueberry picking, reading, crossword puzzles, knitting, and crocheting were favourite pastimes. With her trademark kindness and patience, she taught her grandchildren to knit and crochet.
A private interment will be held at a later date.
