ARTHUR LEONARD ‘BUD’ HEBERT

Arthur Leonard “Bud” Hebert passed away at Riverside Health Care Facilities, Inc. in Fort Frances, Ont. on Saturday, April 8, 2006. Bud was born in Fort Frances on Oct. 19, 1927 and resided here most of his life.
Bud is survived by his wife, Elaine. They were united in marriage on July 9, 1949.
During their early years of marriage, Bud worked at a few different occupations, including underground mining, taxi driving, highway work, bookkeeping, and proof-reading at the Fort Frances Times.
From 1957 until 1980, Bud enjoyed running his own retail stationary store known as “Bud’s Office Supplies.”
In 1974, his passion for helping people drew him to the financial planning field and he started a second career with Investors Group. He received great satisfaction helping people achieve their financial goals and shared in their gratification.
Bud totally retired in 1998 on his 71st birthday.
Bud was predeceased by his father, Lawrence Vincent Hebert, on March 2, 1968 and his mother, Lenora Mary Hebert, on Oct. 6, 1985; one grandson, Jamie Wade Onichuk on Sept. 25, 1991; one sister, Aileen Hanson of International Falls, Mn. on Dec. 2, 2002 and her husband, Chet Hanson, on July 25, 1997.
Bud also was predeceased by Elaine’s parents, Annice Allen on Aug. 13, 1990 and Stan Allen on Sept. 6, 1990, who were both life-long residents of Emo, Ont.
Bud also is survived by six children, Rodney (Deb), Barb (Bob) Beck, Brian (Jean), all of Fort Frances, Ont., Deb Inkster of Kamloops, B.C., Bob of Elkford, B.C., and Stan (Jill) of Barrie, Ont.
He also is survived by 17 grandchildren, Tom (Vanessa) Hebert, Jason (Julie) Hebert, Ben (Rachel) Hebert, Jimmy Inkster, Jody (Scott) Bateman, Jennifer Inkster and friend, Andy, Jackie Inkster, Sarah Hebert and friend, Josh, Megan Hebert, Brianne Hebert, Matthew Hebert, Brandi Onichuk and friend, John, Eric (Becky) Onichuk, Michael Hebert, Jenny Hebert, Cole Hebert, and Rachel Hebert.
Bud also cherished his eight great-grandchildren, Tori Hebert, Tatum Hebert, Haley Inkster, Adam Onichuk, Cameron Onichuk, Carmen Hebert, Luke Bateman, and Camryn Bateman.
There are also many beloved nieces and nephews.
Bud was the best husband and father one could possibly have hoped for. He just loved a challenge and was the best self-motivator we have known.
Bud loved to travel and had a great passion for the lake and for fishing. However, his true love away from his family was golf and the companionship it offered.
Bud was only about 16 years of age when he won his first golf tournament at the old Rainy Lake Golf and Country.
Another passion of Bud’s was his love for hockey. He spearheaded the inception of the Knights of Columbus PeeWee all-star travel team in 1965 (now the K.C. Knights). Dad/coach spent countless hours on the highway and in the rink supporting his players and fellow coaches.
Bud served on both the Fort Frances Rainy River District and the Roman Catholic school boards for many years. He also was very proud of being a member of the Knights of Columbus for more than 50 years.
Cremation has taken place. Bud’s memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at 3 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Fort Frances, with Fr. Francis Pudicherry officiating.
Honourary pallbearers will be all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; along with his former colleagues, Dale McGinnis, Scott McGinnis, Darren McGinnis, Garth McGinnis, Arvo Tyrvainen, John Stewart, and Don Slobojan.
Also included will be long-time devoted friends, Ray Matushak of Superior Wis., Ken Christiansen, Tom Koski, Sam Harnett, and John Kirk.
