ARTHUR JOSEPH (ART) BONOT

It is with great sadness we mourn the passing of Arthur (Art) Bonot, aged 75, of Emo, Ontario who passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at LaVerendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ontario.
Art was born on Sept. 8, 1927 in Vasser, Manitoba to the late Marcel and Edna Bonot. He attended school in Vasser, and then moved to Bergland where he was employed in logging for a number of years.
While in the Bergland area, he met Dorothy Anderson, and on Feb. 27, 1948, they were united in marriage.
Following their marriage, the family moved to Barwick, and then to Emo, where Art worked for the Ministry of Transportation as a Grader Operator. He later was promoted to Patrol Supervisor, a position he held until his retirement in 1984.
Art was very active in coaching and playing hardball and fastball over the years. During that period of time, he was inducted into the Rainy River District Fastball Hall of Fame. He also enjoyed curling. Art was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 99 n Emo, and was a Meritorious Life Member of the Legion. He enjoyed his time at the cabin at Off Lake, and also his time camping with his fifth-wheel trailer which he took to ball tournaments.
He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy Bonot on May 18, 1999; two sisters Isabelle Beaudry and husband Oscar Beaudry, and Jean and husband George Boutang.
Art is survived by his children, Nevin Bonot and wife Diane of Devlin, ON., Bryan Bonot and wife June of Stratton, ON., and Denise and husband Dave Bliss of Fort Frances, ON.; grandchildren Shannon and husband Derek Jackson of Fort Frances, ON.; Laureen Bliss and Brent Lowe of Devlin, ON., Jackie and husband Andy McCormick of London, ON.; Rick Bonot, of Winnipeg, MB., Trevor Bonot and Giselle Bonot, both of Stratton, ON. and Michelle Bonot of Devlin, ON.; two great grandchildren Davis Jackson and Jace Jackson; one sister Theresa Sleeman of Rainy River, ON., one brother Roger Bonot and Lucille of Winnipeg, MN., one sister-in-law Helen and husband Ken Oien of Emo, ON., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003 at 2 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Emo, Ontario. Deacon George Chojko-Bolec officiated with interment in Emo Cemetery in Emo, Ontario.
Friends visited Friday evening from 6:30 until 8 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Emo, Ontario. Parish prayers were offered at 7 p.m.
The pallbearers were Sid Curtis, Herb Johnson, George Olsther, Norm Hyatt, Leon Swire and Greg Wilson.
The honourary pallbearers were Milton Guba, Adelia Guba, Ron Helliar, Darlyne Bruce, Irwin Morphet and Clarence Shrumm.
