Arthur Harold Mattson passed away Nov. 20, 2015.
He was born on July 6, 1925 to Hjalmar and Jennie (Jaakola) Mattson.
The family moved from Shaunavon, Sask. in the fall of 1937 to a Carpenter Township farm. Arthur and his family farmed beef cattle and some grain. Later it was just cattle.
Art attended the Burriss School, where he received two years of high school and learned English quickly and well.
He was proud of his Finnish heritage. Arthur, who became an avid reader, could write both Finnish and English. He really enjoyed conversations in Finnish with his friends and neighbours.
His dad passed away in 1975 and his mother in 1985. Two uncles and some cousins predeceased him.
Art worked very hard well into his 80s on the farm, running around 100 cattle. In his younger days, he did some odd jobs and bush work. Sometimes he enjoyed having neighbour boys assist him in his farm work.
Art was a kind man who remained a bachelor, sharing his life with his dogs.
Interment will take place Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Burriss Cemetery, with Pastor Peggy Mason officiating.
