It is with great sadness that the family of Arnold Haver announces his passing on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014.
Peacefully, with family at his side, Arnold has joined the love of his life: wife, Marie.
Arnold was born in Fergus Falls, Mn. on Dec. 17, 1924 to the late Fred and Mary Haver. His family soon after moved to Mulvihill, Man., where his parents and younger siblings would reside throughout their earlier school years.
In 1939, Arnold was drafted to the army for four years, in which he travelled to various places in Canada for training.
Along with his father, Arnold found work cutting wood in the Thunder Bay area in 1945 and in 1947, the family moved to make their home and farm in Crozier, Ont.
Over the next several years, Arnold continued to work at various jobs with his father and brothers around the district, and eventually would purchase his own farm in Burriss, Ont. in 1963.
Where most would remember Arnold for his constant smile and cheerfulness was when he began his 15-year career in 1974 working as a security guard for Boise Cascade and the O&M.
In addition to working as security, he took tickets at the bridge toll office.
On June 23, 1973, Arnold was united in marriage to the late Marie Brandrick, with whom he farmed, gardened, and travelled to many places over the years throughout Canada and the U.S.
Arnold had many skills, which included building a home for himself and Marie to reside in through retirement and up to her tragic passing in August, 2004.
With his soulmate passing on, Arnold found it difficult to cope on his own and take care of the farm in Burriss, so he moved to town and, with some assistance, was able to enjoy living close to his sister at Flinders Apartments.
When he no longer was able to reside on his own, a difficult decision was made to move to Rainycrest, where he was nurtured and cared for.
Arnold later was joined at his residence by his sister, Nellie, and brother, Leonard, who will feel such a void without him—a missing link from the “train.”
He also will be so dearly missed by Val, Evelyn, Harlene, Gail, and his Rainycrest family.
Arnold is survived by his sister, Nellie Jerry; brothers, Leonard and Ronald Haver; sisters-in-law, Irene Hill-Haver, Erna Haver, and Sylvia Brandrick; brother-in-law, Ken Brandrick; as well as many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Marie; brothers, Norman and Edward Haver; sisters-in-law, Elvera and Alma Haver, and Hazel, Lorna, Shirley, and Bonnie Brandrick; and brothers-in-law, Harley Jerry, and Eric, Henry, and Bernard Brandrick.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Arnold’s life was held Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014 at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, Ont.
Interment followed in the Burriss Cemetery, with Fr. Wayne McIntosh officiating.
Should friends and family so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to Rainycrest Long-Term Care or the Rainycrest Auxiliary c/o Green Funeral Home, P.O. Box 427, Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3M8.
