ARMES ALFRED ‘ART’ ELLMAN

Armes Alfred “Art” Ellman passed away with his family by his side on Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at the age of 88 after a brief illness.
Armes was born Oct. 4, 1916 in Winnipeg, Man. He moved to Devlin, Ont. at a young age and lived with Rhoda and William Tenner.
He served in WW II from 1939 until 1945. Upon returning home, he met and married Betty Galbraith.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Ellman; children, Sharon Roulston (George), Albert Ellman (Laura), Trenia Ellman (Guy), Jean Gerstner (Mike), and Jason Ellman; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Armes was predeceased by the Tenners and three sisters who resided in Winnipeg.
He worked as a correctional officer at the Fort Frances District Jail for 33 years, retiring in 1981.
He enjoyed living in Devlin and was always willing to lend a hand to friends and strangers alike. Armes often could be seen driving his big cars running the family here and there.
In recent years, he walked daily to check his mail in Devlin and was a familiar face locally. He also was well-known for his skill at repairing small motors, and spent many hours “tinkering” in his retirement.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 27, 2005 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 28, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home, with Mr. John Chornaby officiating.
If friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
