ARLENE HEKL

It is with great sadness that the family of Arlene Hekl (nee McEvoy) announce her passing on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009 at the Grace Hospital following a lengthy illness.
She will be sadly missed by her husband, Robert; and daughters, Kimmie Jo Hekl (Alain Dumonceaux) and Karen Mae Hekl (Gord Herkert).
She also leaves her brother, Jack McEvoy; aunts, Clora McEvoy of Fort Frances, Ont. and Donna Morrish of Dryden, Ont.; uncle, Frank (Renee) Dumeney of Fort Frances, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Arlene was predeceased by her parents, Angus and Agnes McEvoy; sisters, Pearl Bender and Patti-Jo Reid; and brothers, Jim and Tom McEvoy.
Arlene was an avid golfer and 10-pin bowler. She was a longstanding member of Bel Acres Golf Course, and was selected to represent Manitoba in the Canadian Seniors’ Open in British Columbia.
Arlene was always quick to tell a joke and on the golf course she was known as “The Candy Lady,” always ready to offer you a piece of candy.
Her main role at Riverhouse was as a residential care worker, where she touched many lives. Most people from Riverhouse knew her as “Sarge.”
A celebration of Arlene’s life will be held Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009 at 2 p.m. in the Thomson In The Park Funeral Home (1291 McGillivray Blvd.)
