ANNIE McGINNIS

Annie McGinnis, 80, of Manitou Rapids Rainy River First Nation, Ont., who resided at Stanjikoming First Nation, Ont., passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
She was born Nov. 20, 1917 in Onegaming First Nation, Ont. to the late John and Ponshawace Shebagegit. In 1948, she was united in marriage to William McGinnis, however, they shared their life together prior to their marriage.
Annie lived most of her life in Northwestern Ontario, and had worked in the Atikokan area at tourist camps until 1969, and also as a trapper until 1971. For the past four years, she has lived in Stanjikoming First Nation, Ont.
Annie enjoyed practising her traditional beliefs with her family.
She was predeceased by her husband, William McGinnis, on Aug. 11, 1967; three daughters, Kathleen McGinnis in April, 1978, Edith Henderson in November, 1978, and Sara Mason in February, 1992; three grandchildren, Debbie, William, and Marlene DeBungie; and by one brother, Thomas Shebageget, in 1977.
Annie is survived by two daughters, Laura DeBungie of Winnipeg, Man., and Mary and husband, Joe Natawance, of Stanjikoming First Nation, Ont.; one son, Willis McGinnis and Vickie Barber of Fort Frances, Ont.; several grandchildren, Candace DeBungie of Emo, Ont., Wayne DeBungie of Minneapolis, Mn., Brad DeBungie of Thunder Bay, Ont., Teresa DeBungie of B.C., Stacy DeBungie of Winnipeg, Man., Dianne and husband, Rolf Geissler, of Fort Frances, Ont., Bonnie McGinnis and Brad Councillor, Carol McGinnis and Ray Beardy, Patty McGinnis and Brian Wayash and their daughter, Ashley, Denise McGinnis and Wayne Cheesequay, all of Stanjikoming First Nation, Ont., Jubal McGinnis and Caroline Chartrand and their daughter, Brook, Damian McGinnis, Emmery McGinnis, and Cullan McGinnis, all of Red Gut Bay First Nation, Ont., and Lyndahl McGinnis and Dannell McGinnis of Fort Frances, Ont.; and by other numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A traditional burial ritual will be held Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998 at 10 a.m. at Manitou Rapids Rainy River First Nation gym. Elder Jim Windigo will officiate, with interment in Manitou Rapids Rainy River First Nation Cemetery.
A wake will be held Wednesday evening at Manitou Rapids Rainy River First Nation.
Pallbearers will be Rolland Shebageget, Chris Shebageget, Jim Henderson, Allan Henderson Jr., Bradley DeBungie, and Damian McGinnis.
Honourary pallbearers will be Carol McGinnis, Barbara Kabatay, Stewart Henderson, Myrna Shebageget, Lindsay Prince, and Mrs. Ronnie McGinnis.
