It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Annie Maria Gladu (nee Boon) on Tueday, April 19, 2016 at Riverview Hospital in Winnipeg, Man. after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Annie was predeceased by her brother, Hank Boon.
She will be sadly missed by her husband, Joe Gladu; sons, Daniel (Alexis), Nicholas (Daly), and Lucas; parents, Peter and Annie Boon of Fort Frances, Ont.; brothers and sister, John, Fred, Pete (Doreen), Richard (Cheryl), Cathy (Ray Ash), Chris, and Paul; brothers- and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, grandchildren, and numerous friends and family.
Annie was born March 13, 1963 in Fort Frances, Ont. She was a beautiful, intelligent, and loving person with a great sense of humour.
Annie grew up on the family farm just outside of Fort Frances in Miscampbell, Ont. with a close-knit, loving family. Annie enjoyed 4-H in her youth, and was surrounded by wonderful neighbours and friends.
She graduated from Fort Frances High School and moved to Winnipeg to work and study.
Annie worked for 30 years as an optician, always greeting people with a smile and high fashion sense. Lastly at Linden Ridge Eye Care with her special friend, Cathy.
Annie always was willing to help people and generous for those with less than she had. She was loved by many and was as good a mother as you can find.
Annie loved to vacation in The Netherlands with her cousins and extended family. She also enjoyed spending time in Fort Frances and Rainy Lake with life-long friends and family.
Annie always was a great person to have on family canoe trips, cycling, or hiking. She always was elegant, whether in a five-star restaurant or around a campfire.
Annie fought hard during her treatments and she often rode her bike to the hospital. Annie spent her last years in Pilates and helping African immigrants to learn English at the House of Peace in Winnipeg.
Prayers will be held Sunday, April 24, 2016 at 7 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., Winnipeg.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 25, 2016 at 11 a.m. at St. Ignatius of Loyola Roman Catholic Church, 255 Stafford St., Winnipeg.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 11 a.m. in the St. Mary’s Church Hall in Fort Frances.
In lieu of flowers, Annie has asked people to donate to World Vision Canada.
