It is with great sadness that the family of Anne Anderson (nee Lawrie) announces her passing on Friday, Sept. 26, 2014 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Anne was born Feb. 20, 1921 in St. James, Man. and grew up in the large Lawrie family (six brothers and seven sisters) on Roseberry Street.
Anne was very athletic and it was while playing softball in Sioux Lookout, Ont. that she met John, whom she married April 7, 1945.
John’s career with the Department of Lands and Forests (now the MNRF) took them to many forestry bases over the years. They lived in Sioux Lookout, Pays Plat, Geraldton, Fort Frances, Chapleau, North Bay, and Sudbury.
They retired to Thunder Bay, Ont. before returning to Fort Frances in 1979. John predeceased her in February, 1999.
Anne had many interests during her lifetime, including golfing, curling, softball, travelling, knitting, crocheting, and sewing. She also was a Brownie and Girl Guide leader for many years, was a member of the Sons of Scotland, and sang bass for the North Bay Baytones and Sudbury Deltones.
Anne also belonged to T.O.P.S., the Order of the Eastern Star, was a member of the La Verendrye General Hospital Auxiliary, a life member of the Rainycrest Auxiliary, and a member of Knox United Church.
The Sister Kennedy Centre was a big part of her life for many years.
Anne also was a loyal and avid Blue Jays’ fan.
Anne is lovingly remembered, and will be deeply missed, by her daughters, Lawrie (Steve) Kosowick of Fort Frances, Ont. and Dorothy (Arnie) Friske of Geraldton, Ont.; grandchildren, Sheldon (Wendy) Friske of Barrie, Ont., Dana Kosowick of Fort Frances, Ont., and Brian (Nicole) Kosowick of Fort Worth, Tex.; and great-grandchildren, Mason and Sam Lundstrom (Kosowick) and Paige Mackenzie Friske.
She also is survived by her sister, Dorothy (Gerald) Caron of Winnipeg, Man.; brother, Thomas Lawrie of Langley, B.C.; sisters-in-law, Anne Mann and Patricia Hancharuk of Sioux Lookout, Ont.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Anne’s life was held Wednesday, Oct, 1, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Knox United Church in Fort Frances, officiated by Jack Cameron.
Interment was at Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
The honourary pallbearers were her grandchildren, Sheldon, Dana, and Brian.
