ANNETTE MARIE BUTTNER

Annette Buttner, 87, of Rainycrest Home for the Aged, formerly of 1334 Sixth St., E., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Friday, June 18, 1999.
She was born July 1, 1911 in Chartierville, Que. to the late Louis (Scott) and Marie (Elmire) Landry. At an early age, Annette moved with her family to Saskatchewan, where her family farmed, and where she was raised, attended school, and later farmed.
Annette was quite a lover of dogs, horses, and all types of animals.
On Nov. 11, 1935, she was united in marriage to Joseph (Joe) Buttner. Following the hailstorm in 1939 which destroyed the farm, they moved to Pinewood, Ont. for a while and then later to Stratton, Ont., where her husband, Joe, operated a garage.
In 1953, the family moved to Fort Frances, where Annette worked as a Registered Nursing Assistant on the children’s ward at La Verendrye General Hospital for more than 25 years until her retirement in 1979.
In Fort Frances, Annette was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church and the C.W.L. Throughout her years, she spun and carded wool, and with that talent knitted and crocheted for her family. She also loved to can fruits and vegetables, and bake for her family right up into her later years.
Annette’s special love was of her grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joe Buttner on Feb. 26, 1993; and by six brothers and one sister.
Annette is survived by her three sons, Robert Buttner of Dryden, Ont., Lawrence Buttner and wife, Marilyn, of Niagara-on-the-Lake, and Steve Buttner and wife, Shirley, of Fort Frances, Ont.; two daughters, Joan and husband, Richard Anderson, of International Falls, Mn., and Margaret and husband, Terry O’Reilly, of Winnipeg, Man.; 21 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 23, 1999 at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances. Father Ed Kosa O.M.I. will officiate, with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Friends may visit Tuesday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Parish prayers will be offered at 7:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be her granddaughters, Juanita Otto, Melissa Lockhart, Debbie Snelgrove, Laura Wiebe, JoAnne Olson, Denni Jo Lester, Lisa Besch, Paulette Rancourt, Kari O’Reilly, Shauna O’Reilly, Sandra Braford, and Jacqueline Nagle.
Honourary pallbearers will be all of her relatives and friends that were involved in her life.
