ANN WILSON (Bebaamichiwebiik)

Ann Wilson (Bebaamichiwebiik) passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 with her family by her side.
Ann was born Nov. 19, 1925 to Johnny and Agnes Speaker, and was a beloved, respected, and honoured elder by many people in Canada and United States.
She is survived by two sons, Allan J. Wilson (wife, Bev) and Raymond; grandchildren, Jason, Marty, Joal, John, and Debbie; and great-grandchildren, Bryton, Oshyn, Bayzhik, Divina, Markus, Animikii, Sarah, Corbin, Sayge, John Jr., Nelson, Cameron, Akeesha, and Talyn.
Also surviving are her sisters, Marjorie Lyons and Dorothy Medicine.
Ann was predeceased by her parents; husband, Albert Wilson; and brother, Johnny Jr.
Ann was an avid trapper and she loved the outdoors, picking wild rice and making all traditional foods with wild rabbits, moose, deer, beaver, ducks, geese, fish, and sturgeon.
Ann was one of four women who formed the Treaty #3 Women’s Council. She was awarded an honourary membership and also was the keeper of the Women’s Council Flag.
Ann also was a fluent speaker of the Ojibwe language.
She was a quiet modest woman who never said “no” when asked for advice, name-giving, interpreting the Ojibwe language, sharing healing medicines, stories of the past, and how to make tikinaagans, and much, much more.
Ann’s hobby was beadwork, sewing, and working with leather.
A traditional wake will be held Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013 at 4 p.m. at the Rainy River First Nation gymnasium.
A traditional funeral will be held Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013 at 10 a.m., with Gilbert Smith officiating.
The pallbearers will be Junior Wilson, Elmer Mainville Jr., Gary Medicine, Burt Hunter, Jeff Brown, and Leroy Wilson.
The honourary pallbearers will be Bud Dickson, Bud Cunningham, Dale Watson, Raymond Watson, and all of Ann’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, and friends.
