It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Angeline Mary Chosa on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Angeline was born March 18, 1956 in Emo, Ont. to the late George and Mabel Johnson.
She had worked at various tourist camps in Rainy River District. She also was a teacher in the Tower/Virginia, Mn. area for a few years, and also had worked for Rainy River District Social Services.
She also attended many training programs throughout Rainy River District.
She enjoyed travelling the pow-wow trail and travelling the district with her partner, George. She followed her culture traditionally and was a traditional teacher to George.
She loved regalia-making for people in the area, doing beadwork and craftwork, and playing Bingo. She also loved animals (cats and dogs) even though she was allergic to them.
She was very outgoing and had a good sense of humour. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, teaching them about culture.
Left to cherish her memory is her partner, George Kirkrude of Fort Frances, Ont.; five children, Dawn Jourdain, Donovan Jourdain, both of Northwest Bay First Nation, Kerrigan Beaver of Toronto, Ont., and Vincent Chosa and Cordelle Chosa, both of Lake Vermillion, Mn.; and three stepchildren, Alana, Anna, and Nathan.
Also surviving are her grandchildren, Haven and Winston Jourdain, Jasmine Bruyere, Paige Beaver, and Ahierienne Beaver; nine step-grandchildren, all of Minnesota; her siblings, Rose Smith (Louis Jourdain), Steve (Jocelyn) Johnson, Elise (Dave) Wesley, Gladys Johnson, Gloria Johnson, and Janice Smith (Brad Kirkrude); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, George and Mabel Johnson; her brother, Elvis Smith; and son-in-law, Robin Bruyere.
A traditional burial service will be held Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the Naicatchewenin First Nation Nation gymnasium, with Elder Steve Johnson officiating.
Interment will take place in the Naicatchewenin First Nation Cemetery.
A funeral wake will be held Friday, March 12, 2010 from 4 p.m. at the Naicatchewenin First Nation gymnasium.
The pallbearers will be C. Wesley Smith, Glenn Smith, Dalrey Smith, Don Smith, Brian Smith, Brian Smith, and Gary Smith.
