It is with great sadness that the family of Angela Indian announces her passing on Thursday, April 12, 2007 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. after a courageous battle with cancer.
Angela was born April 8, 1974 to Ilene and Larry Indian in Emo, Ont. She was raised and lived at Ojibways of Onigaming First Nation most of her life.
After completing high school in Fort Frances, Angela became an Early Childhood Educator for Ojibways of Onigaming. She loved children and was very passionate about their education.
Angela was a quiet and private person; she had a close circle of family and friends with whom she spent her time with. She also enjoyed fishing, dancing at pow-wows, playing pool, and spending time with her nieces.
She leaves behind her parents, Larry and Ilene Indian of Ojibways of Onigaming First Nation; sister, Veronica Indian (Bryan Henttonen) of Thunder Bay, Ont.; and nieces, MaKenna and Tegan Henttonen of Thunder Bay, Ont.
Also surviving are her aunts and uncles, Shirly Kampa (Tim) of Elk River, Mn., Tom Indian of Ojibways of Onigaming First Nation, Linda Indian of Ojibways of Onigaming First Nation, Ernie Bruyere of Couchiching First Nation, Alfred Oshie (Phyllis) of North West Angle, Tommy White (Isabel) of Whitefish Bay First Nation, Lucille Davis (Brian) of Ojibways of Onigaming First Nation, Sandra Copenace (Tom) of Ojibways of Onigaming First Nation, Peter White (Irene) of Sioux Narrows, and Joan Meekis (Johnson) of Sandy Lake; close cousins, April Kelly, Clarence Kelly, and Sheila Orwick; step-grandfather, Gerald Bruyere of Couchiching First Nation; as well as numerous other cousins, great aunts and uncles, and extended family.
Angela was predeceased by her grandparents, Thomas Indian, Elsie Bruyere, Mary Rose White, and Alphonse White; uncles, Cecil White and Jimmy White; aunt, Loretta Bird; and cousins, Marilyn Joan Goodsky, Yvonne Marie Turner, and Lorraine Bird.
A wake was held Monday, April 16, 2007 from 3:30 p.m. at the Ojibways of Onigaming First Nation gymnasium.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Ojibways of Onigaming First Nation gymnasium, with Fr. Francis Pudicherry officiating.
Interment took place at the Ojibways of Onigaming First Nation Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Clarence Kelly, Thomas White Jr., Nathan White, Bryan Henttonen, Mike Orwick, and Thomas Copenace Jr.
The honourary pallbearers were April Kelly, Amy Kelly, Anita Shebagegit, Miranda Shebagegit, Beverly Morrison, and Sheila Orwick.
