Andrew Carpenter, 66, of Arbor Vitae, Ont., passed away at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Man. on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998.
Andrew was born May 6, 1932 in Vassar, Man. to the late Paul and Cecile Carpenter. As a young boy, he attended Sutherland School in Arbor Vitae, and at the age of 12, he moved with his family to Pinewood, Ont. to farm.
During his youth, he worked in the area with his brother and dad logging with teams of horses.
On Oct. 27, 1959, Andrew was united in marriage to the former Kristine Dalseg. The family later returned to their farm in 1964, where they have farmed since.
Andrew attended Our Lady of the Way Roman Catholic Church in Pinewood, was a director on the Rainy River Cattlemen’s Association for many years, and the Rainy River Hereford Association, as well as a number of other organizations.
He was predeceased by one brother, Leo Carpenter; and by two sisters, Eugene Marcour and Arbella Hamel.
Andrew is survived by his wife, Kristine Carpenter of Arbor Vitae, Ont.; one daughter, Leanne and husband, Wayne Guba, of North Dakota; two sons, Keith Carpenter of Ottawa, Ont., and Derek Carpenter of Winnipeg, Man.; two grandsons, David and Christopher Guba; one brother, Maurice Carpenter and wife, Carol, of Prince George, B.C.; seven sisters, Solange Gill of Fort Frances, Ont., Angela Anderson of Prince George, B.C., Priscilla Baisley of Winnipeg, Man., Aurise Gerhard of Fort Frances, Ont., Olive and husband, Bob Gouliquer, of Arbor Vitae, Ont., Olivine and husband, Duane McMillan, of Rainy River, Ont., and Virginia and husband, Grant Hebert, of Winnipeg, Man.; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Way Roman Catholic Church in Pinewood, Ont. Father James Panikulam officiated, with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Rainy River, Ont.
Parish prayers were offered Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of the Way Roman Catholic Church in Pinewood.
Honourary pallbearers were Bud Larson, Jack Finch, Nick Kutzack, Frank Stoyka, Leo Boily, Glenn Anderson, and Don Gembe.
