ALLAN DAVID McKINNON

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Allan David McKinnon on Monday, Jan. 19, 2009 with his family by his side.
Allan was born Nov. 29, 1944 in Emo, Ont. to the late Cameron and Marguerite McKinnon. He grew up on the family farm in Woodyatt and attended Big Fork and later Fort Frances High School.
After completing high school, he moved to Kenora, Ont., where he met and later married Judy Lynch in 1966 (later divorced). They moved to Winnipeg, Man., where Allan worked for IAC Insurance.
In 1977, Allan and family moved next to his parents’ farm, where he built his current home. It was at this time when Allan began working as a carpenter, a job in which he loved and took great pride.
In 1994, Allan was united in marriage to Betty Anderson. Al and Betty enjoyed spending time at their cabin in Morson, as well working together on household and garden projects.
Allan enjoyed fishing and puttering in his shop or garden. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family and many friends. He always was there to lend a helping hand or share a word of advice.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Betty; daughters, Kim and Kelly McKinnon; stepsons, Rudy (Wendy) Anderson and Jim Anderson; grandchildren, Erika and Wesley Anderson; and mother-in-law, Shirley Lord.
He also is survived by his siblings, Katherine Fraser, Ken (Marilyn) McKinnon, Shirley (Ken) Cain, Jeanette (Herman) Anderson, Lorna (Dennis) Robinson, Keith (Mickey) McKinnon, Jim (Sandra) McKinnon, Bev (Peter) Bond, Brian (Shelley) McKinnon, and Gary (Dawn) McKinnon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
As well by his in-laws, Tim (Anita) Folwer, Dave Fowler, Everette (Michelle) Fowler, Shawana Dorine (Sheraga) Durrani, George Fowler, Lynn Laguerre, and Laurie (Marvin) Dale. He also will be missed by his beloved dog, “Beau.”
Allan was predeceased by infant daughter, Shirley; his parents, Cameron and Marguerite McKinnon; brother, Alex (Buddy) McKinnon; and brother-in-law, Fred Fraser.
Allan had many friends and neighbours who loved him dearly. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
At Al’s request, no funeral service will be held. Instead, there will be a come-and-go tea to honour Al on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009 from 2-4 p.m. at the Devlin Hall in Devlin, Ont.
In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada.
