Allan Bruce, 74, of 1520 10th Ave. W., International Falls, Mn., passed away Monday, June 10, 1998 at the Falls Memorial Hospital in International Falls.
He was born Nov. 19, 1923 in Fort Frances, Ont. to the late Alexander “Alex” and Mary Bruce.
Allan served in the Canadian Army, stationed at the Three Rivers, Que. Regiment. He was a front-line soldier and gunner with the heavy tank corps. in Italy, France, Belgium, Germany, Holland, and North Africa, and was wounded in action.
Upon his discharge from the army, he returned to Fort Frances, where he was employed at the Boise Cascade mill. Allan worked there for 47 years, retiring in 1987 as mechanical foreman.
On Oct. 1, 1947, he was united in marriage to the former Lorraine Nordstrand. Following their marriage, they moved to International Falls, where they had lived since.
He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 in Fort Frances, a life-time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of the Presbyterian Church in Fort Frances.
Allan enjoyed gardening, hunting, and his time on the lakes fishing, as well as spending time with his family. His passing was sudden, and he will be missed by his family and friends.
He was predeceased by one great-granddaughter, Alicia Larsen; two sisters, Kathleen Bruce and Iris Roszell; and one brother, Alex Bruce.
Allan is survived by his wife, Lorraine Bruce of International Falls, Mn.; one son, Bradley Bruce and wife, Lyn, of International Falls, Mn.; one daughter, Sandra Heem of Littlefork, Mn.; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Bruce and wife, Tammy, Rebecca Bruce and Richard Tremain, Jennifer Heem, Janelle Heem, Amy Bruce, Adam Bruce, and Amber Bruce; two great-grandchildren, Brianna Bruce and Ryan Tremain; one sister, Mary Thacker of Winnipeg, Man.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 12, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Rev. Mary Whitson will officiate, with interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Friends may visit prior to funeral services on Friday morning.
Pallbearers will be Terry Robinson, Pat Foran, Bob McKee, Doug Brown, Joe McKelvie, and Tony Rud.
