Alice Maude Clarke, 91, of Rainycrest Home for the Aged, 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at her residence Thursday, Oct. 16, 1997.
She was born Sept. 16, 1906 in Wensley, Ont. to the late Frederick and Mary Wensley. In her earlier years, Alice taught elementary school throughout the Rainy River District.
On Nov. 10, 1934, she was united in marriage to Andrew Clarke. Following their marriage, together they were in partnership with David and Emily Crombie and operated Clarke and Crombie Tourist Camp in Nestor Falls, Ont. for many years.
On April 10, 1979, her husband, Andrew, passed away. During the late 1980s, Alice moved to Fort Frances, where she had lived since.
She was predeceased by one sister, Emily Crombie; and brother-and-law, David Crombie.
Alice is survived by one brother, Fred Wensley and wife, Helen, of Parksville, B.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will take place at Norman Cottam Memorial Garden Cemetery in Nestor Falls, Ont. at a later date.
