ALICE FRANCES LAMBERT

With her family by her side, Alice Frances Lambert passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 15, 2006 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Alice was born Sept. 26, 1917 in St. Boniface, Man. to Wilfred and Maria Gregoire. She was the sixth of seven children. The last child, Yvonne, died in infancy, leaving Alice the youngest family member.
She enjoyed this position because her older brothers and sisters gave her special recognition as the baby of the family.
Alice attended St. Joseph’s Academy Private School for Girls at age seven and remained through to Grade 9. There she learned to speak and write fluently both English and French.
As a young woman, Alice worked as a nurse’s assistant with the elderly at the Tache Hospital in Winnipeg. The following year, she left to work at the Levis overall factory.
Alice was united in marriage to Joseph Lambert on June 2, 1936 and together they settled in Fort Frances in 1937. She worked as a Registered Nurse Assistant for 29 years at La Verendrye Hospital.
She was an active member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church and the C.W.L. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing; in fact, Alice had made many of her own outfits and outfits for her children when they were growing up.
Alice also was an excellent cook; she and Joe often entertained for relatives and friends.
Joe suffered a debilitating stroke in 1965 and Alice became his caregiver. It gave her great pride to be able to care for him and maintain their home.
After Joe’s passing, Alice moved to Columbus Place, where she made many new friends. She enjoyed the Bingo and card nights greatly.
Alice also joined the Red Hat Society and looked forward to the outings.
She was a giving person who loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren dearly.
Alice was predeceased by her parents; husband Joseph on Sept. 8, 2002; and six brothers and sisters.
Alice leaves behind her son, Gerald “Bucky” (Edna) of Fort Frances, Ont.; daughters, Mariette (Michael) ffolliott of Vernon, B.C., Theresa (Wes) Dirk of Fort Frances, Ont., Lorna Mae (Sydney) Sutherland of Thunder Bay, Ont., and Susanne Lambert of Vancouver, B.C.
